STUDENT CODE OF CONDUCT
ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS
INFRACTIONS AND CONSEQUENCES
 
LEVEL I INFRACTIONS
Disruptive behavior that will result in disciplinary action may be defined as, but not be limited to the following:
 
  • Interfere with the education of another student, the orderly operation of the school or a school function
  • Exhibit disruptive behavior
  • Speak in a way that teases, hurts or harasses others
  • Fail to follow all classroom rules
  • Use cell phones in school or on school grounds between 8:45 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.; cell phones must be concealed and turned off during the school day. (The school is not responsible for missing electronic devices).
  • Use cell phones during school functions
  • Students shall not bring electronic games to school and may not use musical devices in school
  • Disobey adult directions
  • Be late to school or class without a written excuse from parent/guardian (note or email)
  • Be absent from school without a written excuse from parent/guardian (note or email)
  • Dress in a manner that jeopardizes the health or safety of others
  • Dress in a manner that interferes with the educational process or causes disorder
  • Use inappropriate language
  • Eat outside the cafeteria without permission
  • Chew gum
  • Throw snowballs on the school grounds or at the bus stop
 
LEVEL I CONSEQUENCES
One or more of the following actions shall be taken for misbehavior of LEVEL I:
  • Teacher warning or reprimand
  • Recess detention
  • Parent notification
  • Teacher detention
  • Parent conference
  • Administrative warning or reprimand
  • Behavior contract
  • 1-3 day detention

LEVEL II INFRACTIONS
Disruptive behavior that will result in disciplinary action may be defined as, but not be limited to the following:
 
  • Fail to follow District Policy 6142.10: Technology – Acceptable Use
  • Act in a disrespectful or defiant manner toward any school personnel
  • Lie, cheat, destroy the work of others or commit forgery
  • Cut class
  • Physically fight or harass another student
  • Commit minor theft of school personal property
  • Cause minor vandalism to school property or personal property, including computer systems (restitution included with any consequence)
  • Participate in any gambling activity
  • Carry or handle a dangerous object
  • Act in a way that endangers the safety of themselves or others
  • Use profanity, abusive language, racial, ethnic, religious, or sexually derogatory or explicit terms, or obscene gestures, and inappropriate words such as “bomb,” ʻkill,” “gun,” “shoot.”
  • Use school facilities or property without permission
  • Incitement to fight; encourage others to fight
  • Violate Level I behaviors or other stated rules while attending a class trip, other field trip or school program
  • Violate the Level I behaviors while being supervised by a substitute teacher
  • Miss a scheduled school detention
 
LEVEL II CONSEQUENCES (misbehaviors or continued LEVEL I misbehaviors)
Parent notification and one or more of the following actions shall be taken for misbehavior of LEVEL II:
 
  • 2-5 day detention
  • Loss of privileges such as recess, field trips, participation in special events or extracurricular activities
  • Behavior contract
  • 1-3 day suspension
  • Referral to appropriate mental health professional
 
LEVEL III INFRACTIONS
Disruptive behavior that will result in disciplinary action may be defined as, but not be limited to the following:
 
  • Violate password protection of a computer system, download illegal software, download software to cause damage to a system or cause a security breach, or modify a system file
  • Threaten or strike a staff member
  • Endanger the safety of others with a bomb threat, make threatening or illegal telephone calls, make unauthorized use of fire alarm equipment, or make terrorist threats
  • Cause significant vandalism to school or personal property (restitution shall be included with any consequence)
  • Possess or use tobacco products on school grounds or at school functions
  • Posses or use controlled or illegal substances such as alcohol or other drug on school grounds or at school functions
  • Possess or use any weapon, object that looks like a weapon, or object that can be used as a weapon (such as scissors, nail clippers, pocket knife, knife) on school grounds, the bus, or at school functions
  • Perform or attempt to perform arson
  • Exhibit lewd indecent exposure
  • Commit major theft of school or personal property (restitution shall be included with any consequence)
  • Commit simple or aggravated assault, which causes injury to another person
  • Break into any school district building or vehicle
 
LEVEL III CONSEQUENCES (misbehaviors or continued LEVEL II misbehaviors)
Parent notification and one or more of the following actions shall be taken for misbehavior of LEVEL III:
 
  • Loss of privileges such as recess, field trips, participation in special events or extracurricular events
  • 3-10 day suspension
  • Expulsion hearing
  • Referral to law enforcement authorities
  • Referral to appropriate mental health professional

EXPECTED BUS BEHAVIOR
 
LEVEL I CONSEQUENCES
Parental notification and one or more of the following actions shall be taken for misbehavior of LEVEL I:
 
  • Warning
  • Reassigned seat
  • Behavior contract
  • One to three day after school detention
 
LEVEL II INFRACTIONS
Disruptive behavior that will result in disciplinary action may be defined as, but not be limited to the following:
  • Fail to keep hands, head and feet inside the bus
  • Throw any object on the bus or out of the bus
  • Threaten the safety of others on or off the bus
  • Vandalize the bus or anyoneʼs personal property
  • Hit, punch, kick, or physically assault another student
  • Act in a disrespectful or defiant manner toward the bus driver
  • Use sexually explicit, inappropriate or derogatory language or obscene gestures
 
LEVEL II CONSEQUENCES (misbehavior or CONTINUED LEVEL I misbehaviors)
Parental notification and one or more of the following actions shall be taken for misbehavior of LEVEL II:
 
  • Two to five day after school detention
  • One to five day bus suspension
  • One to three day school suspension
 
LEVEL III INFRACTIONS
Level III infractions include possession or use of the following:
 
  • Weapons
  • Matches or lighter
  • Controlled substance including drugs, alcohol and tobacco • Threats or violence against a bus driver
 
LEVEL III CONSEQUENCES (misbehavior or CONTINUED LEVEL II misbehaviors)
Parental notification and one or more of the following actions shall be taken for misbehavior of LEVEL III:
 
  • Five day or longer bus suspension
  • Three to ten day school suspension
  • Expulsion hearing
  • Referral to law enforcement authorities
